Caldwell Revives and Reinvents: Escape Plan and Mad Mofo Habano Debut at PCA 2025
Caldwell Cigar Co. returns to PCA 2025 with two bold new releases: a refined version of The King is Dead Escape Plan and an amped-up Mad Mofo Habano. Expect bold blends, nuanced updates, and standout cigars made to impress.
Escape Plan: A Return with a Twist
Back in 2022, Caldwell introduced The King is Dead Escape Plan, a box-pressed reinterpretation of their acclaimed The King is Dead blend. It marked the brand’s first box-pressed cigar produced in the Dominican Republic. Now in 2025, Escape Plan is back—familiar in name but newly refined.
This latest limited edition sticks to the same blend origins: Dominican negrito wrapper, Dominican binder, and Dominican filler. However, Caldwell has tweaked the filler ratios, used different leaf primings, and applied a unique fermentation process to the wrapper and binder. The result? A creamy, smooth profile with intensified, more concentrated flavour.
Produced at Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic, Escape Plan comes in four formats:
• Shortcut (5 1/2 x 46) – $16.74
• Autopilot (7 x 48) – $17.94
• Drybeggar (6 x 52) – $19.13
• The Grand Tour (5 x 54) – $17.93
Each is packaged in 20-count boxes and is expected to begin shipping shortly after the PCA 2025 Convention, which runs from April 12–14 in New Orleans.
Mad Mofo Goes Habano
Also debuting is the Caldwell Long Live the King Mad Mofo Habano—a fiery new take on the fan-favourite Mad Mofoline. The original Mad Mofo, launched in 2021, leaned into richness with a Mexican San Andrés wrapper. This time, Caldwell shifts gears with a Habano-seed wrapper, Sumatra binder, and a diverse filler blend from Pennsylvania, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic.
This new Habano version is billed as one of the strongest Caldwell cigars to date, offering intensity and complexity while maintaining the signature sophistication of the Long Live the King line.
The Mad Mofo Habano will be available in four sizes, each packaged in boxes of 10:
• Corona (5 3/4 x 43) – $14
• Belicoso (5 1/2 x 52) – $15.75
• Super Toro (6 x 54) – $15
• Magnum (6 x 60) – $16.30
These are also crafted at Tabacalera William Ventura and will begin shipping shortly after PCA 2025 wraps up.
Final Thoughts
With these dual debuts, Caldwell continues to blend artistry with innovation. Whether you’re chasing the nuanced evolution of Escape Plan or the bolder power of the Mad Mofo Habano, both offerings promise to be highlights of the 2025 cigar season. Collectors, take note—these are ones to smoke and to save.
