Casa Turrent expands the 1880 series

July 18, 2022 Inspector Z 2 min read

Casa Turrent expands the 1880 series. Each of the four different Casa Turrent 1880 blends will receive four new vitolas, making the total count to 16 new cigars. Last year, when the Casa Turrent 1880 made its debut, a 6½x55 Toro was the only vitola. It was a continuous production, but with only one pair of rollers for each of the four blends. That shows how massive the upgrade to five different vitolas in each blend is. The original release toro is now an edicion limitada,

The new cigars will debut at the PCA Convention & Trade Show next week. But that doesn’t mean that the cigars will be available immediately. The 7½x40 Lancero will be available after the PCA Trade Show. The 5½x55 Robusto comes in September. The 5½x54 Perfecto will follow in October. The last new vitola, a 4¾x52 Short Robusto follows in November. Each of the new sizes comes in boxes of ten cigars.

The four blends

The Casa Turrent 1880 series showcases the tobacco growing and cultivating skills of the Turrent family. They have been doing so since 1880, and these blends are a tribute to their family heritage. All of the four blends lean heavy on Mexican tobaccos from the Turrent tobacco plantations.

The Casa Turrent 1880 Claro for example uses a Mexican Negro San Andres binder and a Mexican Habano Criollo Claro wrapper from San Adres. The filler comes from Mexico and the Dominican Republic. The Colorado blend has a Mexican Negro San Andres Colorado wrapper over a Mexican Habano Criollo San Andres binder. This is a Mexican puro as all the filler comes from Mexico as well.

The two darker blends are the Oscuro and Maduro. The first one has Mexican Habano Criollo as both filler and wrapper. The binder is Mexican Negro San Andres. The Maduro version combines a near-black Negro San Andrés maduro wrapper with Habano Criollo San Andrés binder and filler tobacco from Nicaragua and Mexico.
