Cigare77 Comes to the Benelux
Cigare77 comes to the Benelux. There are a surprising number of Swiss cigar brands. Of course, none of the brands are made in Switzerland. But if you look at the ownership of the brands, they are in Swiss hands.
Davidoff is a Swiss brand, but there’s Patoro, ADVentura, Cavalier Geneve, Pachuche, Vegas de Santiago, Helvada, and Gilbert de Montsalvat to name a few. Another Swiss cigar brand is Cigare 77 by Laurent Taha. He makes his cigars in a collaboration with Vegas de Santiago. That makes them Costa Rican cigars.
The history
Taha met Marc Niehaus from Vegas de Santiago in 2010 at a cigar tasting. They became close friends and Taha helped Niehaus at the annual Intertabac trade show. Then in 2013, after seeing two heavily tattooed bikers at the booth, Taha came up with a concept. Cigarre 77 was born. Big cigars with a bad-ass look that would appeal to customers like those bikers.
Taha wants to stand out from the crowd so he went for a 5½x58 El Unico. And he wanted it to be stronger than the average cigar from Costa Rica. After a few tries, he found the right blend. By mixing filler tobacco from Peru, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic with Ecuadorian Habano 2000 as wrapper and binder Taha found what he was looking for.
77
The 77 comes from Taha’s year of birth. January 1st to be precise. And 77 comes back in everything he does. He got married on July 7th, and of course, the release date of his first cigar was July 7th, 2014.
The logo is an adaptation of the logo Taha made for his helmet for the Euro Festival Harley Davidson Grimaud bike festival. The red-eye is a wink to the terminator. And we all know that The Terminator, Arnold Schwartzenegger is an avid cigar smoker.
Three vitolas
Right now, Cigare 77 offers three vitolas in the Skull 77 line. These are the El Unico, 5½x58. That cigar will come in at €12,65 in the Benelux. The 3¼x58 El Nino is €12,35. And the El Diablo with the fitting 6×66 size comes in at €17,90.
