Cohiba Rubicon: A New, Affordable Line from General Cigar

July 27, 2025 Inspector X 2 min read

General Cigar unveils the Cohiba Rubicon, a new wallet-friendly line priced under $10 per cigar. Launching this August, the Rubicon redefines affordability within the premium Cohiba portfolio.

Cohiba Rubicon Crosses into Budget Territory

Cohiba has long stood as a symbol of luxury in the cigar world. With the new Rubicon line, General Cigar Co. takes a bold step toward affordability. The Rubicon offers Cohiba craftsmanship at an unexpectedly accessible price point.

Every cigar in the new line costs less than $10, marking a sharp contrast to the typically high-priced Cohiba range. It’s a surprising move, especially when the brand’s last major release, the Cohiba Spectre, retailed at an eye-watering $150 per stick.

The Rubicon gets its name from the famous river Julius Caesar crossed in 49 BC. While its connection to the cigar’s identity may be unclear, the message is bold—there’s no turning back from value.

A Balanced Blend of Global Tobacco

Wrapper, Binder, and Filler Origins

The Cohiba Rubicon features an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. Underneath sits a Connecticut Broadleaf binder, known for its richness and strength. The filler is a multinational blend:

  • Dominican Piloto Cubano,

  • Honduran leaf from La Entrada and Jamastran,

  • Nicaraguan tobacco from Estelí.

General Cigar describes the blend as medium-bodied. Smokers can expect complexity, balance, and smoothness.

Three Sizes, One Great Value

Formats and Pricing

Cohiba Rubicon launches in three vitolas:

  • Robusto (5½ x 55) – $8.49

  • Toro (6 x 54) – $8.99

  • Gigante (6 x 60) – $9.49

All are box-pressed and packed in 20-count glossy boxes with bold orange bands.

Manufacturing and Distribution

The cigars are made in Honduras at the HATSA factory, known for its consistent craftsmanship. Cohiba Rubicon will be available starting 1st August across the U.S. market.

As with all non-Cuban Cohibas, Rubicon is distributed by General Cigar Co., a subsidiary of Scandinavian Tobacco Group. Outside the United States, the cigars are marketed under the name Silencio although its unclear if the Rubicon will become available internationally.

A Follow-Up to Cohiba Blue

The Rubicon isn’t General’s first entry into more accessible Cohiba territory. In 2017, they released Cohiba Blue, a Honduran-heavy blend aimed at value-conscious smokers. However, the Rubicon now takes the crown as the least expensive Cohiba available today.
