Davidoff Launches Cask-Aged Grand Cru Diademas Finas

July 4, 2024 Usman Dawood 2 min read

Davidoff has introduced the Davidoff Grand Cru Diademas Finas, the final installment of its “Cigar History Re-Rolled” series. Unlike previous Grand Cru releases, this one is an entirely new cigar. It is the first Grand Cru to be made in the Diademas Finas size and features tobacco aged in a wine barrel, which is a departure from the typical Grand Cru blend.

The idea for using cask-aged tobacco comes from Zino Davidoff’s interest in Bordeaux wines. The blending methods of Bordeaux wines inspired the creation of the Grand Cru cigars in 1946. Bordeaux wines are made from three primary grapes, and the Grand Cru’s filler blend includes three different Dominican tobaccos. A notable component is the San Vicente seco filler, aged for six months in a Premier Grand Cru Classé red wine cask from Bordeaux, France.

The Davidoff Grand Cru Diademas Finas measures 6 3/4 inches with a 50 ring gauge. It has a double-tapered shape and a light Connecticut-seed wrapper from Ecuador, with a Dominican binder. The cigar is described as mild to medium-bodied.

Production is limited to 4,050 boxes of 10 cigars for the U.S. market, with a suggested retail price of $57 each. This release is part of Davidoff’s “Cigar History Re-Rolled” series, which also includes the Signature No. 1 Limited Edition, Millennium Blend Series Lancero Limited Edition 2023, and Aniversario No. 1 Limited Edition 2023.

Davidoff suggests pairing the Grand Cru Diademas Finas with a red Bordeaux, particularly from the Right Bank.

The Davidoff Grand Cru is made at Cigars Davidoff in the Dominican Republic. This new release offers cigar enthusiasts an opportunity to experience a different take on the Grand Cru blend with the introduction of cask-aged tobacco.
