Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust to Launch Sobremesa Solita Red in 2025

October 14, 2024 Inspector X 3 min read

Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust is set to release a new addition to its popular Sobremesa range next year with the introduction of the Sobremesa Solita Red, a richer and bolder variant of the original blend. The announcement comes after founder Steve Saka discontinued the Sobremesa Solita Cervantes Fino in 2023, hinting that a new project was on the way.

Details about the new cigar remain sparse, with specifics on the blend, pricing, and production numbers yet to be disclosed. However, early indications suggest that the Sobremesa Solita Red will share the same vitola as the Cervantes Fino, which was a 6 1/4 x 46 parejo. Additionally, the new cigars are expected to be sold in 13-count boxes, though it is not yet clear if other vitolas will be offered alongside this release.

Saka recently took to his Facebook page to shed light on the decision to cease production of the Cervantes Fino, a fan-favourite from the original Sobremesa line. “When I stopped making the Cervantes Fino, which is one of my personal favourites from the original liga and was still selling well, I told everyone there was a reason for my madness,” he explained. “I was working on this bolder and richer version, and it would soon be on the horizon – still distinctly Sobremesa, but with that extra bit of pizazz that takes it from being a great cigar to an exceptional one.”

The Sobremesa line has been a cornerstone of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust since its inception in 2015. The original blend consists of an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a Mexican negro binder, and fillers sourced from Condega, Estelí, and Pueblo Nuevo in Nicaragua, along with Pennsylvania broadleaf. Over the years, the brand has expanded with various extensions, including the Sobremesa Brûlée in 2019, the Sobremesa Brûlée Blue in 2020, and most recently, the Sobremesa Brûlée Blue Wagashi in 2023.

The Sobremesa range received a significant update last year when Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust renamed the line to Sobremesa Solita and revamped its packaging. This move mirrored a strategy the company has employed with its Mi Querida brand, which debuted in a single blend but has since evolved into a multi-faceted line, distinguished by packaging colours and subtle differences in flavour profiles.

The upcoming Sobremesa Solita Red is expected to be a key highlight for Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust in 2025, continuing Saka’s tradition of innovation within the premium cigar industry. With anticipation building, cigar aficionados are eager to experience this bolder interpretation of an already highly regarded line.
