El Baton Cameroon Firecracker Launches in August

January 24, 2025 Inspector X 2 min read

J.C. Newman is set to debut the El Baton Cameroon Firecracker this August, joining the esteemed roster of companies contributing to the celebrated Firecracker Series. This limited-edition release pays homage to the Newman family’s legacy while celebrating the heritage of Cameroon tobacco.

The El Baton Cameroon Firecracker is a 3 1/2 x 50 petit robusto cigar with a distinctive long pigtail. Despite sharing the same band as the regular El Baton cigars, this Firecracker is crafted with a unique blend. It features a Cameroon wrapper enveloping Nicaraguan tobacco in the binder and filler, delivering a distinct smoking experience. Each cigar is priced at $9 and will be sold in boxes of 20. Production is capped at 500 boxes, totalling 10,000 cigars, all manufactured at the J.C. Newman PENSA factory in Nicaragua.

According to a press release, “This special release commemorates the visionary legacy of Stanford Newman, a second-generation cigar maker who, in 1965, pioneered the use of Cameroon tobacco in premium cigars. Sixty years later, the J.C. Newman Cameroon Firecracker pays homage to his trailblazing spirit and the rich heritage of this unique tobacco.

The Firecracker Series originated in 2007, spearheaded by Two Guys Smoke Shop in New Hampshire, owned by Dave Garofalo, who also heads United Cigars. Known for its compact 3 1/2 x 50 size and pigtail cap, the series has featured collaborations with renowned manufacturers, including Tatuaje, My Father, and La Flor Dominicana, among others. Initially exclusive to Two Guys Smoke Shop, the series now enjoys nationwide distribution by United.

This year, United Cigars has already announced two Firecracker releases. The Micallef Black Firecracker will hit shelves in June, followed by the El Baton Cameroon Firecracker in late August. Collectors and enthusiasts should act quickly to secure this tribute to tradition and innovation.
