Espinosa Ships Las 6 Provincias ORT: A Tribute to Cuba’s Rich Heritage

November 8, 2024 Inspector X 2 min read

Espinosa Premium Cigars begins shipping its latest release, the Las 6 Provincias ORT. This sixth installment of the Las 6 Provincias Series celebrates the historic Oriente region of Cuba, offering aficionados a premium cigar with a rich backstory and exceptional blend.

The Final Chapter of Las 6 Provincias?

Espinosa Premium Cigars has introduced the Las 6 Provincias ORT as the latest addition to its acclaimed series. Named after Oriente, the easternmost of Cuba’s original provinces, this 6 x 56 box-pressed toro uses an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper with a Nicaraguan binder and filler, developed at the San Lotano Factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua.

Hector Alfonso, Espinosa’s director of operations, shared his pride in the project: “From the cigars to the packaging, this series has allowed us to showcase the Cuba of old, before the revolution, making it very special for us.”

A Historical Journey Through Espinosa’s Las 6 Provincias Series

Espinosa’s Las 6 Provincias Series was launched in 2018 to honour Cuba’s original six provinces, each release featuring unique artwork by Edin Gutierrez. The series highlights the distinct cultural essence of each province:

  • LHB (2018): The debut release, a 6 x 54 vitola in regular production.
  • MTZ (2019): A tribute to Matanzas, limited to 20,000 cigars.
  • LV (2021): Dedicated to Las Villas, produced in 10,000 cigars.
  • CMW (2022): Celebrating Camagüey, with 20,000 cigars produced.
  • ZDT (2023): A nod to Pinar del Río, details undisclosed.
  • ORT (2024): A tribute to Oriente, produced in 1,000 boxes of 20 cigars.

Oriente: A Region Rich in History

The Oriente province holds a special place in Cuban history. In December 1976, Cuba reorganised its administrative divisions, splitting Oriente into five distinct provinces: Granma, Guantánamo, Holguín, Las Tunas, and Santiago de Cuba. The ORT release celebrates the region’s cultural and historical significance before this reorganisation.

What’s Next for the Series?

While Espinosa has not confirmed if the ORT marks the conclusion of the Las 6 Provincias Series, there is speculation that a seventh installment may be in the works. The possibility of re-releasing earlier cigars in the series also remains open, keeping fans eager for updates.

Final Thoughts

With the release of the ORT, Espinosa continues to pay homage to Cuba’s rich heritage, offering cigar enthusiasts a taste of the history and tradition that shaped the island’s identity. Whether this marks the end of the series or is simply a new beginning, the Las 6 Provincias ORT is a fitting tribute to the legacy of Oriente.
