Felipe Gregorio celebrates thirty years
Felipe Gregorio celebrates thirty years. And to commemorate the three decades as a cigar manufacturer, the brand comes with something special. Something that reminds brand owner Philip Wynne of the 30-year long journey. It’s the Felipe Gregorio 30 Anniversario Don Filipe XLP. And XLP stands for Extremely Limited Production. The production of the cigars takes place in the Dominican Republic..
The cigar
Felipe Gregorio celebrates those thirty years with 300 jars. Each jar contains 25 5×54 Wide Robusto cigars. And the tobacco is spectacular. Wynne says that “I blended the cigar with essential elements from my journey in the cigar industry”.
The wrapper is an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado. It’s delicate, subtle tobacco with a beautiful reddish glow. The binder comes from Costa Rica. It’s been aged for a decade. The variety of tobacco is an ancestral Pelo de Oro. According to the press release, the flavor profile of this tobacco comes close to the original Habano cigars.
The filler on this cigar is spectacular though. It is a 22-year-old Habano 98 Copan Ruinas from Honduras. It is the last crop before hurricane Mitch. In 1998 one of the worst hurricanes in history hit Central America. It killed over 5000 people in Honduras and made 1.5 million Hondurans homeless. Nicaragua was hit hard as well, but not as hard as Honduras. According to Wynne, Mitch washed away the topsoil in the 48 hours it tormented Honduras. And due to that, the terroir has changed forever. The flavor of the vintage tobacco used in the Felipe Gregorio 30 Anniversario Don Filipe XLP can never be achieved again.
All jars are pre-sold to tobacconists all over the United States. They will receive their orders shortly.
