Fonseca Du Nord Edición Regional Canada Set for Early 2026
Fonseca will release a new Edición Regional cigar exclusively for Canada in early 2026. The Fonseca Du Nord marks the brand’s first regional release in more than a decade and Canada’s first in over seven years.
A New Edición Regional for Canada
The Fonseca Du Nord continues the Edición Regional programme with a Canada-only release. According to sources familiar with the project, retailers should receive the cigars in February 2026.
This marks the 11th Edición Regional release created specifically for Canada. It is also the first Canadian regional since the Diplomáticos Norteños in 2018. The long gap adds significance to the announcement.
While official pricing has not yet been disclosed, production details confirm a limited and clearly defined run.
Vitola and Production Numbers
Fonseca Du Nord uses the robusto extra vitola. In Cuban terminology, this size is known as genios. The cigar measures 5 1/2 inches (140mm) by a 52 ring gauge.
This vitola will be familiar to many smokers. It matches the format used for the Cohiba** Genios**, the H. Upmann** Connoisseur A**, and several other Edición Regional releases.
Total production is capped at 6,000 boxes. Each box contains 10 cigars. This results in a total run of 60,000 cigars.
Packaging and Canadian Regulations
Images of the Fonseca Du Nord have already surfaced, showing the cigar with standard Cuban banding. However, Canadian retail requirements will change its final presentation.
Upon arrival in Canada, the cigars must comply with the country’s plain packaging regulations. As a result, consumers will not see the traditional Cuban presentation at the point of sale.
Despite this limitation, collectors and enthusiasts will still recognise the release by name and vitola.
Canada’s Edición Regional History
Canada’s Edición Regional programme began in 2007. Since then, releases have appeared only intermittently.
Previous Canadian Edición Regional cigars include Bolívar Simones, Ramón Allones Petit Unicos, Juan López Supreme, and the Diplomáticos Norteños. The Fonseca Du Nord now joins this relatively short and selective list.
The lengthy gap since the last release adds weight to the 2026 launch.
Fonseca and the Edición Regional Programme
Fonseca is rarely selected for Edición Regional projects. The Du Nord will be only the third Fonseca regional since the programme began in 2005.
Previous examples include the Fonseca No.4 for Benelux in 2010 and the Fonseca Amateur for France in 2011. The Canadian release completes that short list.
Among the 27 Cuban-made cigar brands, Fonseca remains one of the least commonly encountered. The brand dates back to 1892 and traditionally focuses on milder cigars.
Fonseca is also known for its distinctive white tissue paper wrapping. Its regular production portfolio includes just four vitolas, all on the smaller end of the spectrum.
