Great Wall Cigars has launched the GX Lion’s Glory in Europe, with the Netherlands as its entry point. The release represents the company’s first blend to incorporate Cameroon tobacco and signals a broader international push.
A Milestone Release for Great Wall
Great Wall Cigars stands as the largest producer of handmade cigars in China. With the GX Lion’s Glory, the company takes a notable step in its product evolution.
This release marks the first time Great Wall has used Cameroon tobacco in a blend. That choice reflects a deliberate move toward more complex and internationally recognisable flavour profiles.
The project also highlights Great Wall’s intent to engage directly with European markets. Europe has traditionally shown cautious interest in non-Cuban and non-New World cigars from Asia.
Blend and Vitola Details
The GX Lion’s Glory comes in a 6 1/2 x 52 toro format. This size offers a familiar and versatile smoking experience for European consumers.
An Ecuadorian wrapper covers the cigar. An Indonesian binder provides structure. The filler blend combines tobaccos from Cameroon, China, the Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua.
This multi-country filler composition underlines the cigar’s global ambition. It brings together diverse tobacco styles within a single blend.
International Collaboration Behind the Blend
Great Wall’s internal blending team developed the GX Lion’s Glory with assistance from international cigar experts. One of those collaborators was Stijn Elbersen.
Elbersen is the founder of Small Batch Traders b.v.. His company is responsible for distributing the cigar in the Netherlands.
The cigar has already gone on sale in the Dutch market. This partnership played a key role in shaping both the blend and its European positioning.
Pricing and Packaging Options
In the Netherlands, the GX Lion’s Glory carries a retail price of €20 per cigar. Boxes of 10 cigars retail for €200.
Great Wall has also introduced an upgraded presentation. A premium humidor option includes 20 cigars and retails for €500. This format targets collectors and high-end retailers.
Total production is limited to 50,000 cigars. This cap reinforces the limited nature of the release.
Manufacturing and Market Availability
The GX Lion’s Glory is produced at Great Wall’s factory in Shifang, located in Sichuan province. This facility serves as the backbone of the company’s handmade cigar production.
In addition to Europe, the cigar is already available in the Chinese domestic market. This dual-market release strategy reflects Great Wall’s confidence in the project.
In a press release, the company stated that the collaboration embodies its long-term vision. The goal centres on elevating Great Wall’s presence in the global premium cigar segment.
