A film about cigars
About three years ago, an Indigogo campaign was launched. Jesse Mariut and Steve Ghereban, two commercial filmmakers and lovers of the leaf, are the culprits. Their idea: a documentary about cigars. About the craft. Or as they say it: Hand Rolled: A Film About Cigars is a feature-length documentary on the artisanal craftsmanship of premium cigars. And the beautiful people that are involved in the process!
With the anti-tobacco sentiments in modern-day society, they wanted to show that cigars aren’t cigarettes. That it’s just tobacco, water, and vegetable-based glue. And that 300 hands have touched the tobacco before a cigar is enjoyed by you or me.
BACKERS
Now the movie didn’t just have funding from the Indiegogo campaign. One of the biggest backers is Pete Johnson from Tatuaje. But Daniel Marshall from DM Cigars and acclaimed humidor builder backed the project too. Just as Nick Melillo from Foundation cigars. As well as Padron, La Galera, La Flor Dominicana, J.C. Newman, Oliva, My Father Cigars, Perdomo, Arturo Fuente, and Joya de Nicaragua. And a lot of the people from the cigar industry welcomed Mariut and Ghereban. They opened the doors to their farms, warehouses, and factories. And were interviewed on camera.

Big industry names are in the film. Marvin Shanken from Cigar Aficionado for example. But also Jose Orlando and Jorge Padron from Padron Cigars. Carlito Fuente, Pete Johnson. Robert Levin from Ashton and Eric Newman from J.C. Newman feature in the film. Alejandro Martinez Cuenca and Juan Martinez from Joya de Nicaragua. Don Pepin, Hendrik Kelner, Rocky Patel, Nick Perdomo, and the list goes on. The full list is available on IMDb, the internet movie database.
