Joya de Nicaragua Transitions Número Uno to 13-Count Boxes
Joya de Nicaragua is making a significant packaging change to its acclaimed Número Uno line. The brand has announced that it will shift from 25-count boxes to a new 13-count format, a change that has already been available outside the U.S. but is now becoming the standard for American retailers.
A New Standard for Número Uno
The transition to 13-count boxes means that once existing 25-count inventory runs out, retailers will only carry the new format. Fans of the larger box size should act quickly to secure remaining stock before it disappears. The new packaging will officially debut at the 2025 PCA Convention & Trade Show in New Orleans (April 11-14) and will begin shipping to U.S. retailers later that month.
This adjustment affects two vitolas within the Número Uno range:
- L’Ambassadeur (6 5/8 x 44) – $19.50 per cigar ($253.50 per box)
- Le Premier (6 7/8 x 48) – $20.50 per cigar ($266.50 per box)
Notably, the Número Uno L’Attache (5 1/2 x 42), an exclusive format available only through the Club de Amigos retailer loyalty programme, will remain unchanged.
A Diplomatic Legacy
The Joya de Nicaragua Número Uno features an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler, drawing inspiration from the company’s Clasico blend. Originally created as a diplomatic gift for Nicaraguan ambassadors, this cigar made its public debut in 2018 as an event-exclusive under the name No. 1. It gained widespread recognition when it was named halfwheel’s Cigar of the Year in 2018 before being rebranded as L’Ambassadeur.
Following its success, the Número Uno received a commercial release in 2019, with additional vitolas consistently ranking on halfwheel’s Top 25 list in subsequent years. This legacy of excellence, now available in a more compact 13-count box, ensures that connoisseurs can continue to enjoy one of Nicaragua’s most prestigious cigars with enhanced accessibility.
