Juan López Dom Juan 1622: A Cuban Exclusive for France
Cuban cigars and literature have a storied history, and now France has added its name to this tradition with the Juan López Dom Juan 1622. This exclusive Edición Regional is crafted solely for the French market, paying homage to the literary genius Molière and his 17th-century comedy, Dom Juan.
A Unique Vitola with Regional Flair
The Juan López Dom Juan 1622 measures 5 7/8 inches (150mm) in length with a 54-ring gauge, a format known as “Geniales” in Cuban cigar factories. This vitola has featured prominently in Cuba’s Regional Edition programme, previously seen in cigars like the Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo de San Juan. Each cigar bears a secondary band that reads “Exclusiva Francia,” distinguishing it as a French exclusive.
Priced at €32 per cigar (approximately $33), these Habanos are sold in numbered 10-count boxes, retailing at €320 per box. Only 10,000 boxes have been produced, adding a layer of rarity to this already unique offering.
Celebrating Molière’s Legacy
This cigar is more than a smoke; it’s a tribute to Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière. The Dom Juan 1622 celebrates the 400th anniversary of the playwright’s birth, marked in 2022. Molière’s Dom Juan draws from the Spanish classic El Burlador de Sevilla y Convidado de Piedra by Tirso de Molina, weaving cultural and historical significance into the cigar’s identity.
A Delayed Yet Anticipated Release
Although selected as France’s Regional Edition for 2022, the Dom Juan 1622 arrived on the market late, following the trend of delayed Edición Regional releases. Described by Coprova, France’s Habanos distributor, as “a generous and elegant Habano with subtle, medium-bodied notes,” this cigar embodies both refinement and balance. It continues the tradition of Regional Editions, which spotlight lesser-known Cuban cigar brands and unique formats unavailable in standard Habanos lines.
The Legacy of Edición Regional
Habanos S.A.’s Edición Regional programme allows distributors worldwide to commission exclusive cigars for their regions. These cigars must come from brands outside the company’s Global Brands portfolio and feature sizes not typically associated with the selected brand. The result is a collection of distinctive cigars that cater to specific markets while enriching the global cigar landscape.
For collectors and enthusiasts, the Juan López Dom Juan 1622 is a must-try. Whether for its literary homage, elegant profile, or rarity, it exemplifies the artistry and cultural connection that make Cuban cigars timeless.
