La Aurora and Leon Jimenes Coming Back to Shops in the Netherlands

November 16, 2022 Inspector L 2 min read

La Aurora and Leon Jimenes are coming back to cigar shops in The Netherlands. The Longfiller Company, the largest independent premium cigar distributor in the country has signed a distribution agreement with the oldest cigar factory from the Dominican Republic. For both companies it’s a step back in time, as Leon Jimenes was the first brand ever to be imported by The Longfiller Company in the 1990s. But it’s also a step forward as the switch to STG as a distributor diminished the presence of La Aurora and Leon Jimenes on the Dutch market.

Leon Jimenes

Leon Jimenes Cigars are handcrafted by La Aurora factory, the oldest cigar company in the Dominican Republic. Although the cigar factory surfaced in 1903, they introduced these handmade cigars in 1953 in honour of the founder and his brother. Due to the Connecticut wrapper leaf’s growing fondness throughout the first half of the century, La Aurora designed a blend with it for the Leon Jimenes cigars brand. Since then, cigar lovers consider it a relentlessly consistent blend from one of the world’s premier cigar factories.

La Aurora

In 1903 18 year-old Eduardo León Jimenes founded La Aurora cigar factory in Don Pedro, Guazumal community in the province of Santiago de los Caballeros, with a small investment. The dream of creating a handmade cigar brand with global dimension begins. Those first cigars were “Perfecto” format, the doble figurado that even today are produced in a very limited way, only 100 units daily by craftsman. La Aurora is the seed of the Dominican Republic largest business group, the E. León Jimenes Group. La Aurora is still famous for their perfecto cigars
