La Estancia releasing an edicion especial

Back in 2014, the Meerapfel family released La Estancia. And the cigar shook some European markets for a while. The cigar was very interesting since the filler consisted of aged Cuban tobacco, dating back from the 1980s, combined with Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican tobacco in the filler, and a Honduran wrapper. And now there’s a Edicion Especial on the way.

Now the name Meerapfel might not be well known to the cigar aficionados, yet within the cigar industry, it’s one of the most respected families. The family got in the tobacco trade in 1876 and have build a huge name for themselves since. Without the Meerapfels, Cameroon tobacco would have died. They are still responsible for almost all African grown Cameroon. They have close ties to Arturo Fuente, handling their distribution for international markets. The same relationship they have with Padron, another well-respected family. That says something about the stature of the Meerapfels.

The La Estancia cigars are named after the gathering place in Havana, Cuba, where in the emblematic 1950s, the men would gather to play dominoes, drink rum and smoke cigars. The Meerapfel family have huge storage facilities with plenty of aged tobaccos and the tobacco for the La Estancia was hand selected, only the best tobacco was picked for the cigars.

We reached out to the Meerapfel family to learn more about the blend, the price range, the vitolas and what countries would receive this new line. From the pictures that we received, we expect three different sizes, one with a 50 ring, 56 ring and a 60 ring but the length is still a mystery. We are yet waiting for an answer.
