La Grande Dame: A Limited Homage by Laura Chavin to the Grande Dame of the German Cigar Trade

June 7, 2023 Inspector L 2 min read

The new limited La Grande Dame from Laura Chavin is an homage to Irene Seiler, the Grande Dame of the German cigar trade. The cigar is almost perfect for “La Grande Dame”, which, with a limited edition of only 2,000 cigars, ideally corresponded to the hand-picked selection. And with that came another surprise. La Grande Dame is a real Puro Dominicana thanks to the wrapper, filler and binder of Dominican origin. All other tobaccos come from the regions in the Cibao Valley that are designated Zona A1.

After its completion in November 2021, the dark brown cigar was stored and matured in the humidor of the Tabacalera in Villa González in a large cedar box specially made for Limitadas. A year later it went on a long journey towards its destination. She was given another 6 months to acclimatize to the humidor of the Cigar Company Willi Knopf and thus to our latitudes. In the meantime, the cigar has been balanced and, according to Willi Knopf’s recommendation, is already a perfect smoking experience. In addition, due to her composition, he also assumes that the Grande Dame has great aging potential.

The product design was, how could it be otherwise, developed by the creative department of the advertising agency Knopf. Noble boxes made of mahogany combined with high-gloss lacquer in off-white and copper elements – matching the no less elaborate cigar rings in the same colours, additionally provided with a relief embossing. An appearance that creates expectations that are ultimately reflected in the quality of this cigar.
