La Libertad moves to Nicaragua

August 3, 2022 Inspector Z 2 min read

La Libertad moves to Nicaragua. The brand, which is very popular in Germany, moves from Honduras to Nicaragua. From Danli to Esteli in Nicaragua. From the factory of Plasencia to the new factory of the Villiger Group. The cigars are also available on the American market, but those are a different blend and come from the ABAM factory in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. And they will move too.

The brand was founded in the early 2000s by the German company Liberty Cigar Company. The brand changed hands to El Mundo Del Tobacco, a subsidiary of Villiger Sohne. Later on, it was completely integrated into the Villiger group. Now that Villiger has opened the Villiger de Nicaragua factory in Esteli, the production moves from the Plasencia factory in Danli to the new Villiger location.

Blends and sizes

The cigar has a new blend with a Nicaraguan Criollo wrapper over a binder from the Dominican Cibao valley. The filler comes from Nicaragua and consists of seco from Jalapa, viso from Esteli, and ligero from Esteli. It is the same blend for Europe and the USA. The new blend is awaiting introduction in Germany, France, and Switzerland in September.

La Libertad came in six different vitolas, but that changes with the move to the new factory. Four of the six sizes are gone, and a new 6×54 Gran Toro appears. The other two vitolas are the 5×52 Robusto and 5½x42 Corona. The cigars now come with a new ring in the traditional colors or La Libertad. The boxes contain 20 cigars are in book form. The packaging is also new.
