LSU and Bocock Brothers Launch Limited-Edition Baseball-Themed Cigar

February 3, 2025 Inspector X 3 min read

Louisiana State University (LSU) and Bocock Brothers are teaming up once again to release a limited-edition, baseball-themed cigar ahead of the college baseball season. The new cigars, branded with LSU insignia, celebrate the university’s rich sporting tradition and championship pedigree.

Called The Power House: Jay Johnson Signature Series, this exclusive release comes in two sizes—Robusto and Toro—paying tribute to LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson. Johnson led the Tigers to a College World Series title in 2023, and this special cigar aims to honour his leadership. The Toro measures 6 inches by 52 ring gauge and comes in a pinstripe box resembling LSU’s baseball uniform, while the 5 x 50 Robusto is packaged in a bold purple box, another nod to the Tigers’ signature colours. Each 20-count box features coach Jay Johnson’s signature and includes a custom LSU baseball holder shaped like home plate, perfect for showcasing a prized baseball.

Both cigars boast a premium blend featuring a dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper, a Honduran binder, and a mix of Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers. The box-pressed cigars are handcrafted in Honduras at Fabrica San Judas Danlí and will be available in limited quantities. The Robusto will retail at $325 per box ($16.25 per cigar), while the Toro is priced at $335 per box ($16.75 per cigar).

This isn’t the first time LSU and Bocock Brothers have collaborated. Ahead of the 2024 college football season, the duo launched three LSU-themed cigar lines, including LSU Connecticut, LSU Habano, and the LSU Centennial Edition, commemorating Tiger Stadium’s 100th anniversary. These were the first officially licensed, college-branded cigars—an unconventional partnership given the NCAA’s traditionally anti-tobacco stance. The latest baseball-themed release underscores LSU’s ongoing commitment to celebrating its athletics through unique brand partnerships.

The new cigars debuted at LSU’s Baseball First Pitch Banquet on January 16, where nearly 1,000 attendees helped raise over $400,000 for the LSU baseball programme. The event included auctions for memorabilia, such as signed baseballs from LSU alumni like Paul Skenes, alongside The Power House cigars.

LSU enters the 2025 baseball season ranked No. 2 in pre-season rankings by Baseball America, just behind Texas A&M. The Tigers are one of the most successful college baseball programmes in history, securing multiple College World Series titles, including their latest victory in 2023.

A portion of proceeds from the cigar sales will benefit Bayou Traditions, LSU’s Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) collective, which funds NIL deals for LSU student-athletes. With NIL playing a crucial role in college recruiting, these cigars provide diehard LSU supporters with a direct way to contribute to their team’s success.

Pre-orders for The Power House are now open on the Bocock Brothers website, with official sales launching on February 28 at select partner retailers. These shops, primarily located across the southern U.S. in states like Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida, cater to the dedicated LSU fan base.

The Tigers kick off their 2025 baseball season on February 14 with a home game against Purdue Fort Wayne, as they aim for another top seed in the College World Series come June.
