Matilde goes to Tabacalera La Isla
Matilde goes to Tabacalera La Isla for its new cigar. That cigar, Matilde Limited Exposure No 1 will make its debut during the PCA Convention & Trade Show in mid-July in Las Vegas. The idea is that Matilde Cigars will be producing a series of cigars with the LE name, of which this is the first.
Tabacalera La Isla
For the new Matilde cigar, brand owner Enrique Seijas choses Tabacalera La Isla as the producer. And it’s the third announcement of a cigar coming from this brand new, small factory from the Dominican Republic. Only a few months ago Hostos Fernandez Quesada ventured out on his own. And now Tabacalera La Isla is making cigars for Warped, La Sirena, and Matilda. It is the first time that Matilde makes cigars anywhere else than Tabacalera La Palma.
“I partnered with Hostos Fernandez for this project,” says Enrique Seijas. “Hostos and I have a long-standing relationship. He’s a great cigarmaker and easy to work with. Once I heard the news of Tabacalera La Isla, I knew that at some point we would work to create something great together.”
Matilde Limited Exposure No.1
There is only one vitola available. That is a 6×50 Toro in boxes of 20 cigars. The MSRP before tax is $10.50 Even though the brand name says limited, the plans are to make this a continuous production, yet in limited amounts. The first batch should arrive at retailers in September.
For the blend, Seijas went with all Dominican tobacco for the filler and the binder. The wrapper comes from Mexico. It is unclear if international distributors of Matilde Cigars can order these cigars as well, due to the scarcity of the cigars.
