Matilde Serena Series Gets Second Blend

December 6, 2022 Inspector L 1 min read

The Matilde Serena series, made at Tabacalera Palma in the Dominican Republic, is getting a second blend. A stronger blend with a Mexican maduro wrapper and the appropriate name Matilde Serena Maduro. It is the first extension to the Serena line since its inception in 2016.

The only change to the blend is the binder, which is changed to a Dominican Criollo 98 instead of a Dominican Olor and obviously the wrapper from an Ecuador Connecticut to a Mexican Maduro. The filler with Dominican and Nicaraguan tobacco remains the same. The new binder works better with the Mexican maduro and gives the cigar more complexity.

Though stronger than the original, brand owner Enrique Seijas says the cigars are medium in body. The cigars will come in a Robusto and Toro Bravo series, with more vitolas to follow in the future. The first shipment is expected to land at retailers in the first quarter of 2023.
