Montecristo & Punch Chosen for 2025 Edición Limitada Releases
Each year, Habanos S.A. announces a selection of limited-edition cigars, and for 2025, only two will be released instead of the usual three. The chosen cigars are the Montecristo Elba Edición Limitada 2025 and the Punch Princesas Edición Limitada 2025.
The 2025 Edición Limitada Selections
For 2025, the two Edición Limitada cigars are:
- Montecristo Elba Edición Limitada 2025 – 5 3/4 inches (146mm) x 54
- Punch Princesas Edición Limitada 2025 – 5 3/10 inches (135mm) x 52
Edición Limitada cigars are always unique vitolas for their respective brands, although they may not be entirely new Cuban cigar sizes. They are released in limited quantities, though exact production numbers are rarely disclosed. These cigars are crafted from premium tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region of Pinar del Río, which undergoes a minimum of two years of aging. Each cigar carries a secondary band indicating its limited-edition status and the release year.
Montecristo Elba: Celebrating 90 Years
Montecristo marks its 90th anniversary in 2025, and the Elba appears to be the commemorative cigar for this milestone. Its name refers to the Italian island of Elba, a significant location in The Count of Montecristo. The vitola, named Encantos, is a new addition to Cuban cigars, making it unique within the Montecristo brand. Unlike most Edición Limitada cigars, the Elba will be available in two packaging options: five-count cases for the initial launch and 10,000 numbered boxes of 20.
Punch Princesas: A Historic First
Punch is celebrating its 185th anniversary with the Princesas, featuring the widely recognised Edmundo vitola, previously used for brands like Montecristo. While over ten brands have utilised this vitola, this marks the first time it will appear under the Punch name. Historically, the Princesas name was used for Punch cigars but in a different format. Like most Edición Limitada releases, no production figures have been disclosed. The Punch Princesas will be sold in boxes of 20.
A Notable Year for Edición Limitada
Habanos S.A. unveiled these cigars at the Festival del Habano XXV, Cuba’s premier cigar festival. As is often the case, details on release dates and pricing were not provided. While Edición Limitada releases typically include three cigars, there have been exceptions. In 2015, for example, only two were announced due to the launch of the Montecristo 80 Aniversario, which functioned similarly to an Edición Limitada release without the official branding.
A similar situation seems to be occurring in 2025. In addition to the Montecristo and Punch releases, Habanos S.A. has introduced the Romeo y Julieta Amantes, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the brand. While not officially an Edición Limitada, it may serve as an unofficial third release in this prestigious series. As cigar enthusiasts eagerly await further details, these exclusive 2025 releases promise to be highly sought after.
