New Regional Edition Cuban Cigars Released in Asia Pacific

December 30, 2024 Inspector X 2 min read

Two new Regional Edition Cuban cigars have debuted in the Asia Pacific territory, including a re-issue of a long-discontinued format. These highly anticipated releases cater to collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The Flor de Cano Diademas is a Churchill-sized cigar measuring 7 inches long by 47 ring gauge, also known as Julieta No. 2 in Cuban factories. Previously discontinued in the 1990s, this cigar has made a return to the delight of aficionados. Vintage Diademas have historically scored well in Cigar Aficionado’s Connoisseur’s Corner, and the re-issue is now available at select retailers in Hong Kong for HKD 650 (approximately $83.65 USD) per cigar. A wider release is expected soon in Japan, Thailand, Australia, and other markets serviced by Pacific Cigar Co. Ltd.

In Cuban terminology, “diademas” usually refers to long figurados that taper at both ends. However, the Flor de Cano Diademas is a traditional Churchill shape, making it a unique offering within its category.

The second release is the Por Larrañaga Lotus, a short robusto exclusive to Macau. Measuring 4 3/4 inches by 54 ring gauge, this cigar shares its dimensions with the H. Upmann Magnum 54. It retails for HKD 550 ($70.77 USD) and is limited to 4,000 boxes of 25 cigars each, totalling 100,000 cigars.

Both cigars are packaged in slide-lid boxes of 25 and were introduced at a gala dinner hosted by Pacific Cigar Co. in late 2023. As part of the Edición Regional programme by Habanos S.A., these cigars are marked by a secondary red-and-silver band indicating their regional exclusivity. This programme allows distributors to select exclusive releases each year, often resulting in highly sought-after and collectible cigars.

The re-introduction of the Flor de Cano Diademas and the launch of the Por Larrañaga Lotus reflect the enduring appeal of the Edición Regional programme and the creativity it brings to the world of Cuban cigars. Enthusiasts in the Asia Pacific region will undoubtedly welcome these distinctive new smokes into their collections.
