Oliva Cigars announces line extension

July 18, 2022 Inspector Z 2 min read

Oliva Cigars announces line extensions. The Oliva Serie V Melani will see one new vitola. The Maduro version will get three new sizes. The cigars will debut at the PCA Convention & Trade Show, which takes place in Las Vegas next week.

New sizes

Each year, Oliva releases an edicion limitada, but the new sizes are regular production cigars. The new Oliva Serie V Melanio 6×52 Toro is the 7th regular production vitola in the award-winning Serie V Melanio blend. That blend consists of Nicaraguan binder and filler under an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. The MSRP is $14 before taxes, and the cigars come in boxes of ten sticks.

The Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro doubles in size. The three new vitolas will join the already existing three. The new sizes will excite both fans of classic sizes as well as fans of big ring gauges. There is a 4½x46 Serie V Melanio Maduro #4 and a 6×60 Double Toro. In between is the 6×52 Toro. The only difference with the Oliva Serie V Melanio is the wapper. The filler and binder are the same, just with a Mexican San Andres wrapper around it. The Maduro cigars also come in boxes of ten cigars.

Melanio

The Oliva Serie V Melanio is named after the family patriarch Melanio Oliva. He was the one that started the family’s tobacco heritage by growing tobacco in Pinar del Rio, Cuba. His son, Facundo, grew the business before handing the reigns over to Gilberto Oliva. Gilberto Oliva fled Cuba after the revolution and ended up in Nicaragua. It’s there where he started growing tobacco again, and with his oldest son, Gilberto Jr. decided to start making cigars as well. The rest is history.

Melanio Oliva and Gilberto Oliva both have a cigar named after them. Oliva Cigars was intending to release a cigar for Facundo Oliva as well, but the rum brand Bacardi owns the trademark and objected.
