Oliva Cigars Recalls Promotional Cigar Slim Lighters Due to Missing Child Safety Feature
Oliva Cigars has announced a recall of its promotional cigar slim lighters branded as Nub, Serie V, Cain, and Oliva, after discovering that they do not meet the federal safety standards required for cigarette lighters. The absence of a child-resistant mechanism poses a serious fire and burn hazard, particularly for young children under the age of five.
Recall Overview
The recall affects approximately 60,000 units of promotional lighters distributed as free items between August 2022 and July 2024. The recalled lighters were part of marketing campaigns run by wholesalers, retailers, and cigar lounges. The affected lighters are small, measuring 3” x 1½” x ¼”, and are available in white, brown, or red with the respective brand name printed on one side.
Potential Hazards
Since the lighters lack child-resistant features, they pose a significant risk if accessed by young children who could easily ignite them, leading to potential fire or burn injuries. Although no incidents or injuries have been reported, the failure to meet child safety regulations means these lighters must be disposed of immediately.
Remedy and Disposal Instructions
Consumers who possess these lighters should stop using them immediately and follow safe disposal procedures. There is no replacement or refund, as the items were given away for free.
To safely dispose of the lighters:
- Turn the lighter upside down and locate the charge/purge valve in the middle of three openings.
- Using a small tool (e.g., an eyeglass screwdriver), depress the valve until no compressed gas remains, and the hissing sound stops.
- Once fully depleted, the lighter can be safely discarded.

Safety Reminder
This recall underscores the importance of consumer safety, particularly with products that could pose risks to young children. Oliva Cigars is committed to ensuring the safety of its customers and is actively working with retailers and wholesalers to address the issue.
