Oliva is adding figurado to Melanio Maduro

May 10, 2022 Inspector Z 2 min read

Oliva is adding figurado to Melanio Maduro. The Nicaraguan cigar company is trying the market for the new vitola with a limited batch of 70.000 cigars before deciding to keep it in production. It will be the fourth vitola in the Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro line-up. So for now, it is a limited edition.

Oliva Serie V Melanio

Oliva lanced the Oliva Serie V Melanio in 2012. The line was named after the company’s patriarch Melanio Oliva. And the new line was recognized as top-notch by cigar aficionados worldwide. Even though the cigar is a regular production cigar, the production is capped at 500.000 cigars. The figurado of the original blend was voted best cigar of the year 2014 by the leading magazine Cigar Aficionado.

In 2014, Oliva launched an offshoot. The blenders changed the wrapper of the cigar from an Ecuadorian Sumatra to a Mexican San Andres Maduro. The Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro was born. Currently, there are three vitolas on the market. Those are a 7×50 Churchill, a 5×52 Robusto, and a 6½x52 Torpedo. With the launch of the new 6½x52 Figurado, the line has its 4th size.

The launch of the new cigars is expected to happen before the new year. According to Sasja van Horssen, Oliva distributor in The Netherlands, the cigar will be available at his Cigaragua shop. Van Horssen will get an allocation for his Cigaragua shop in the museum quarter of Amsterdam. But he might be the only international account that is getting them. Cigaragua has a special status for a lot of Nicaraguan cigar manufacturers. According to a spokesperson from Oliva Cigars, this batch is exclusively for the United States.
