PDR releases a small batch of aged cigars

April 28, 2022 Inspector Z 2 min read

PDR releases a small batch of aged cigars. And there is a nice story behind the new PDR Small Batch Exclusive. Apparently, the cigars are from 2014. Abe Flores was making the cigars for a European company. After rolling, the cigars were supposed to be aged for six months. During that aging period, the European company hit bad weather. Bankruptcy was declared. And the cigars are sitting in the aging room since.

Fall cleaning

While cleaning and reorganizing the aging room at the Blue Star factory, Flores notices the cigars. Since the cigars are not paid for and the company that ordered them no longer exists, Flores decided to put them on the American market. In a statement to Cigar Aficionado, Flores says “It was a production we made for a European customer and we forgot we had them until now. So, we decided to do something special with them for the U.S.,”.

This PDR Small batch is a small production. Only 20.000 cigars are available. In two different blends. Both blends come in two sizes. The first blend is natural. It uses a Cuban seed wrapper from Brazil. The binder is Dominican Criollo 98. The filler comes from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. This blend is available in a 5×52 Robusto and a 6×52 Toro.

There is also a Maduro version. The binder and filler are the same as the natural. The wrapper is Mexican San Andres. This blend comes in a 6×52 Toro and a 5⅛x60 Short Gordo. All blends and sizes are for sale in paper-wrapped five packs. And all for very reasonable prices. The MSRP before tax is between $24 and $26 dollars. Only 4000 packs are available. Divided between both blends and all sizes.

More cleaning

Finding these cigars in the aging room isn’t all. In total, Flores and his team recovered 180.000 cigars. All cigars that were forgotten. That’s including the 20.000 cigars for this small batch. Flores is planning to release the rest of the cigars in small batches as well. The remaining 160.000 cigars are a total of different blends and sizes. They will slowly appear on the market.
