Perla Del Mar gets a make-over

Perla Del Mar gets a make-over and a new blend. The Nicaraguan cigars from J.C. Newman are known for their consumer-friendly prices. They were available in Connecticut and Maduro, but now there is a Corojo version available as well.

Perla Del Mar Corojo

The Perla Del Mar Corojo comes from J.C. Newman’s PENSA factory in Nicaragua. That goes for the other two blends as well. The Corojo version uses an Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper over Nicaraguan filler and binder. 

There are four sizes available. A 4¾x52 Robusto, 6¼x54 Toro, 6×60 Double Toro, and 5½x46 Corona Gorda. The cigars come in boxes of 25. The Perla Del Mar line exists since 1905. But it was not made for a long time. J.C. Newman reintroduced the brand to the world in 2012.

New blends and new packaging

“Although our Perla del Mar cigars were good, we were not totally satisfied,” says Drew Newman, general counsel of J.C. Newman, in a press release. So the company strengthened the blends with aged Nicaraguan filler tobacco. “We wanted to make them better – and that’s exactly what we did. After two years of effort working to perfect the brand, we are thrilled to reintroduce Perla del Mar,” Newman continues.

If you run into Perla Del Mar at your local tobacconist, it is easy to spot if it’s the old blend or the new blend. J.C. Newman updated the packaging. The cigars themselves are Tampa style pressed. That means they are more rectangular than the squared pressed cigars with the old blend.
