Principle Ships Boy Band Vol. 1: A Unique Collaboration of Dominican Legends
Principle Cigars has begun shipping Boy Band Vol. 1, one of 2024’s most intriguing cigar projects. Created by Darren Cioffi, the concept brings together five celebrated Dominican cigarmakers, each tasked with crafting a unique 6 x 50 toro inspired by Nina Simone’s iconic 1965 album, I Put a Spell on You.
Cioffi’s approach was refreshingly unconventional. He provided each artisan with a copy of the album but placed no restrictions on the blends, allowing their creativity and interpretation of the music to guide the process. The result is a diverse collection of cigars, each a reflection of the maker’s style and expertise.
The line-up includes:
• José “Jochy” Blanco: Connecticut wrapper with Dominican binder and filler.
• Eladio Díaz: Ecuadorian wrapper with Dominican binder and filler.
• Hendrik “Henke” Kelner: Ecuadorian Habano Hybrid wrapper with Dominican binder and filler.
• Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Jr.: Ecuadorian Habano wrapper with Ecuadorian binder and a filler blend from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Nicaragua.
• Manuel “Manolo” Quesada Jr.: Ecuadorian Corojo wrapper with Indonesian binder and a filler blend from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.
Each box of Boy Band Vol. 1 contains one cigar from each maker, retailing at $80 for five cigars. Production is limited to 5,000 boxes, making this a highly collectible series for aficionados.
“This is the ‘27 Yankees of cigar collaborations,” Cioffi said, emphasising the significance of bringing together such legendary figures for a single project.
Looking ahead, Cioffi has hinted at introducing a new roster of makers for a potential Boy Band Vol. 2. For now, Vol. 1stands as a testament to the artistry and diversity of Dominican cigar craftsmanship. Don’t miss this harmonious blend of talent and creativity!
