Punch Golden Era Expands with New Lancero Size
A prominent Honduran brand, known for its dedication to Corojo-seed tobacco, has introduced a new, slender size to its product line. This development follows a collaboration last year between General Cigar Co. and the Eiroa family, which resulted in the creation of Punch Golden Era. This cigar line is a tribute to Corojo-seed tobacco cultivated in Honduras. Recently, General Cigar Co. expanded the Punch Golden Era line-up by adding a Lancero size, which is now available for cigar enthusiasts.
The Corojo tobacco used in Punch Golden Era is sourced from a 650-acre farm owned by the Eiroa family in the Jamastran Valley of Honduras. The Eiroas have highlighted that this tobacco is grown from non-hybrid seeds that trace their origins back to Cuba’s renowned El Corojo farm. Apart from incorporating some Habano leaves in the filler, these cigars are predominantly composed of Corojo tobacco. Importantly, all the tobacco used in the Punch Golden Era cigars is cultivated in Honduras, ensuring a distinct Honduran profile.
Corojo tobacco has a rich history, having been first developed in the 1930s at Cuba’s El Corojo farm. It was once the preferred wrapper for Cuban cigars due to its unique characteristics. However, by the year 2000, Corojo was largely replaced by more disease-resistant and higher-yielding varietals, leading to its retirement. Despite this, the Eiroa family has continued to cultivate Corojo tobacco, preserving its legacy and distinctive qualities.
The new Lancero size in the Punch Golden Era line measures 7 inches in length with a 38-ring gauge and is priced at $10.99. This addition brings the total number of sizes in the Punch Golden Era line to four, joining the existing Robusto, Toro, and Churchill sizes. All the cigars in this line are meticulously rolled at the Fabrica de Puros Aladino S.A. factory in Honduras. General Cigar Co. describes the Punch Golden Era cigars as having a mild to medium body, making them a versatile choice for a range of cigar aficionados.
With this new Lancero addition, Punch Golden Era continues to honour the heritage of Corojo tobacco while offering cigar enthusiasts a unique and refined smoking experience. The dedication to using authentic, non-hybrid Corojo seeds and the careful cultivation process underscore the commitment of both General Cigar Co. and the Eiroa family to maintaining the rich tradition of Honduran tobacco.
