S.T. Dupont Pays Tribute to Pablo Picasso with Limited Edition Collection
S.T. Dupont, the French accessory brand, has been inspired by many things, from planets to casinos, from (James Bond) movies to music and the latest inspiration comes from Spain. Or better said, from Spain’s best-known artist. To commemorate that it’s 50 years ago that Pablo Picasso passed away, S.T. Dupont created a limited edition Pablo Picasso collection with the famous 1962 painting “Portrait of Jacqueline in a Straw Hat.”
According to S.T. Dupont, in the early ’60s Picasso used actual S.T. Dupont products to create new works of art. He gifted his son and daughter-in-law Dupont lighters that he engraved himself, one with Harlequin, the other with Pierrot, characters from the Commedia Dell’arte, an early form of Italian theatre.
S.T. Dupont drew inspiration from Picasso before, going back to 1998. In the last decade the company used “profil de femme” and “dove”, a 1949 sketch from the Spanish artist.
The collection consists of two different lighters, the Ligne 2 and the Slimmy, a thinner version. Both have a white background with a reproduction of the painting. The suggested retail price for the Ligne 2 is a whopping $1895 while the Slimmy goes for $375. The rest of the collection includes pens, a key ring, a cigar case, an ashtray, an iPhone case, a white letter tote bag and a calfskin clutch bag. All of these items feature the famous painting.
