September 30, 2025 Inspector X 2 min read

Sarah Gonzalez, longtime manager and master roller at Tabacalera Perdomo S.A., has passed away after 32 years with the company. She leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship, dedication, and family spirit at Perdomo Cigars.

A Pillar of Perdomo Cigars

Sarah Gonzalez joined Perdomo Cigars in its earliest days in Estelí, Nicaragua. She helped shape the company’s culture and reputation for quality.

President and CEO Nick Perdomo Jr. described Gonzalez as more than a colleague. He called her “family” and compared her to a second mother. He praised her unmatched love for people, her craftsmanship, and her deep concern for the Perdomo family.

“She knew our children from the time they were babies,” he said. “Her love for the craft has been central to our success.”

Sarah Gonzalez, Perdomo’s beloved factory manager and master roller, passes away after 32 years, leaving a lasting legacy in cigar making.

From Havana to Estelí

Before joining Perdomo, Gonzalez spent decades at the H. Upmann factory in Havana, Cuba. Her skills earned her great respect in the Cuban cigar industry.

When she moved to Nicaragua, she quickly became vital to Perdomo’s growth. Nelson Cuba, operations manager, credited her leadership with creating the company’s strong factory culture. “She loved Nicaragua, its people, and the rich tobaccos grown here,” he said.

Remembered as Family

Members of the Perdomo family shared how Gonzalez touched their lives. Janine Perdomo, COO, also described her as a second mother. Nicholas Perdomo III, national sales director, said she was like a grandmother to him and his sister Natalie.

Her presence was more than professional; she nurtured bonds that extended far beyond the factory floor.

Honouring Her Legacy

Perdomo Cigars announced that a memorial gathering will be held at the Perdomo Cigar Factory in Nicaragua. The event will celebrate her life, her contribution to the industry, and the deep connections she built over her long career.
