The Cannon: J.C. Newman’s Patriotic Addition to The American Line
J.C. Newman is adding a 6¼x60 Gordo to the The American line, a line where everything is American made. From American grown tobacco to the last screw on the boxes, everything is made in America. And the new size honours the patriot Joseph Gurney Cannon, the 35th Speaker of the House of Representatives. Cannon was an Illinois Republican who served 23 terms, albeit not consecutively, in the House of Representatives from 1873-1923. That included serving as Speaker of the House from 1903-1911.
The new cigars are going into production next week and will be aged for a year so they are ready to be released before election day, which is November 5th 2024.
The Cannon is the sixth vitola in the line, a line only available in limited quantities in the United States. The cigars are made with a Florida Sun Grown wrapper, grown by Jeff Borysiewicz who also owns Corona Cigars in Orlando and retail shops in Tampa. The binder is a Connecticut broadleaf. The filler consists of Havana-seed tobacco from Connecticut and tobacco from Pennsylvania. The cigars are rolled in America too, in the El Reloj factory from J.C. Newman, located in Tampa.
