University of Houston and PCA Unite for Premium Cigar Hospitality Masterclass

October 13, 2025 Inspector X 3 min read

The Premium Cigar Association (PCA) and the University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton College have completed a pioneering two-day educational experience titled “The Ritual Experience: Premium Cigars, Fine Beverages & the Business of Hospitality.” The event bridged the worlds of premium cigars, fine beverages, and luxury hospitality.

A New Educational Collaboration

Held on October 6 and 8, the masterclass formed part of the College’s Beverage Management course. The programme began with remarks from Joshua Habursky, CEO of the PCA, followed by two lectures delivered by Ricardo Carioni, PCA’s Director of International Affairs and Education and Co-Founder of The Cigar Academy.

The sessions explored the artistry, heritage, and sensory depth of premium cigars. Students learned how cigars align with the traditions of fine beverages and guest experience management. Through historical insights and case studies, the programme demonstrated the role of cigars within luxury hospitality.

Empowering the Next Generation of Hospitality Leaders

Joshua Habursky highlighted the importance of academic partnerships for the cigar industry:

“This collaboration with the Hilton College represents the kind of forward-looking education our industry needs. It’s about empowering students with knowledge that bridges culture, craftsmanship, and commerce—ensuring that premium cigars are understood not just as products, but as living traditions within the broader hospitality ecosystem.”

Insight and Engagement from the Classroom

Ricardo Carioni praised the curiosity and engagement shown by the students and faculty:

“It was a genuine pleasure to engage with the students, whose curiosity, professionalism, and thoughtful questions were deeply impressive. Their enthusiasm reaffirmed my belief that this new generation of hospitality leaders is ready to shape the future with both intellect and passion.”

He added that the collaboration reflected the shared values of excellence and lifelong learning central to both academia and the cigar world.

Expanding PCA’s Educational Mission

This initiative forms part of the PCA’s broader educational efforts to connect cultural literacy with craftsmanship. It builds upon previous collaborations with Florida International University and underscores the Association’s goal of enriching hospitality education through the study of premium cigars and their role in global luxury culture.

Through programmes like The Ritual Experience, the PCA continues to elevate the dialogue between academia and the cigar industry—nurturing future leaders who appreciate cigars as both cultural artefacts and business assets.
