Van Dalen Cigar Boutique Expands to Roermond, Bringing Premium Cigars Back to the Region
A new cigar shop is opening in The Netherlands. The new shop brings cigars back to the southern city of Roermond, a city in the province of Limburg that lost its only cigar shop, the renowned shop Jansen Quicken, late 2020. The new shop is a collaboration between retailer Tom Winkelman and distributor and retailer Sasja van Horssen. The duo already works together in Maastricht where they opened Van Dalen Cigar Boutique a few years ago. Winkelman got his experience in the cigar industry working side by side with his father at their shop in Eygelshoven before partnering up with Van Horssen, who’s becoming the cigar mogul of The Netherlands.
Van Horssen is a third generation tobacco man and he transformed his family business from rolling tobacco and machine made cigars centred to premium cigars. He is the importer for many of the best new world cigars in The Netherlands such as My Father Cigars, Padron, Fuente, Joya de Nicaragua, Rocky Patel, Padron, Tatuaje, Quesada, Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust, J.C. Newman and A.J. Fernandez amongst others. He is also responsible for the international sales of Quesada Cigars and handles all international warehousing for My Father Cigars and Tatuaje.
Besides his import business, Van Horssen also owns Cigaragua in Amsterdam and the Van Dalen Cigar Boutique stores in Maastricht (with Winkelman), Groningen (with Rinse van Gans), Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Dordrecht and Den Bosch.
Van Horssen told Cigarinspector “after successfully opening Maastricht together with Tom Winkelman, we knew our next van Dalen would be in Roermond. It’s the right size, has the right type of customers and has a great cigar history for being the city where famous Jansen Quicken cigar shop was located in the past. But the thing that got us to move on it was the quick Growth of Maastricht’s manager, Ron Merken. It is not really difficult to open a van Dalen Cigar Boutique, but it is a challenge to find the right person to run it : with Ron, we found the right man for the job. I am sure that, under the guidance of Tom Winkelman and with maybe some help from me, he will do great things at van Dalen Cigar Boutique Roermond.”
Winkelman added “this area has lost a lot of great cigar shops in the last few years. Jansen Quicken, Van Neer in Sittard, Deckers in Heerlen, Otten and the Davidoff shop in Maastricht and our original shop in Eygelshoven. The time was right for a new, high-end, tobacconist in the area. With Van Dalen Cigar Boutique Maastricht and Van Dalen Cigar Boutique Roermond we have two great shops less than an hour drive away from each other.”
Van Dalen Cigar Boutique Roermond will open this coming Saturday for the first time and is located at the Neerstraat 38 in Roermond.
