VegaFina releases new cigar blend.
VegaFina releases new cigar blend. The new, three vitola line is called VF 1998. But the tobacco isn’t that old. It’s the year when the brand was founded. Tabacalera, the Spanish tobacco monopoly at that time created the blend. Tabacalera later merged with the French tobacco monopoly Seita. And even later they became part of Imperial Brands.
VegaFina history
The VegaFina brand is still alive and kicking. Made at Tabacalera de Garcia in the Dominican Republic. The brand is a staple in many European cigar stores. And joined the Chinese zodiac calendar bandwagon as well as regional editions. Such as the VegaFina Exclusivo Benelux, which we reviewed not too long ago.
For the new line, Altadis brags that the tobacco is at least 3 years old. But that’s not that special. Most new world cigars use tobacco which is older. But Altadis is part of Imperial Brands. Imperial Brands is 50% owner of Habanos. And Habanos gets away with calling young tobacco “reserva” so Altadis is trying the same trick for VegaFina. And by adding 1998 to the name, plus calling the line ‘aged’ in their communication, they are confusing consumers.

The cigars come in a 4 ½ x50 size, a 5 ⅓ x52 size, and a 6×54 size. For the names, Altadis looked at Habanos again and copied the BHK. The cigars are called VF 50, VF 52, and VF 54. The filler tobaccos are from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Colombia. The binder comes from Java, Indonesia. The wrapper is Ecuadorian Shade Grown.
When the 10 count boxes will be available in Europe and Asia has not been announced by Altadis yet. As soon as Altadis and VegaFina releases the launch dates for the new cigar blend we will update this article.
