Weekly news week 14 2021. A new month, so a new episode of our series on legends of the cigar industry. Each first Sunday of the month we publish an article about a person who’s made the cigar industry to what it is today. Sometimes it is someone who’s still alive, sometimes it’s someone who left us already. Sometimes it’s someone whom most of us know, sometimes it’s someone who works behind the scenes. This month’s subject is someone who’s alive and kicking, and one of the most famous names in the cigar industry at the moment: Ernesto Perez Carrillo.
Reviews
The two reviews of week 14 are coming from Cuba and Nicaragua. One Edicion Limitada and one regular production. The H. Upmann Magnum 56 is the Edicion Limitada from Habanos for the year 2015. The Nicaraguan cigar The Circus Twister Torpedo comes from El Viejo Continente. It is a barber pole torpedo.

Cigar news
This week saw the announcement for five new cigars. VegaFina is releasing a regional edition for Germany. The Dominican brand makes more regional editions, and it’s also not the first edition for the German market. Davidoff is reintroducing the Zino brand with new packaging and a new slogan: From A to Zino. Protocol Cigars is expanding Sir Robert Peel from the Lawmen series with a Corona Gorda. Macanudo presents a new cigar in the Inspirado serie with a Brazilian shade wrapper. Plus the Cohiba Atmosphere Kuala Lumpur was the host of the global launch of the San Cristobal de la Habana Harimau Malaya.

Joya de Nicaragua is entering the Belgian market with a newcomer to the game, Media Rueda. Media Rueda recently entered the market with Oveja Negra brands Black Label Trading Society and Black Studio Works. Joya is the next brand they introduce. Les Fines Lames is coming to Singapore with several different versions of the Le Petit cigar knife.
Alec Bradley fire and boxes
Alec Bradley made the news twice this week. Once with good news. Due to a change of packaging to boxes of 24 the company doesn’t have to raise prices. But then later this week a fire destroyed several curing barns and greenhouses at Finca La Musica, one of the farms that grow tobacco for Alec Bradley. Recently Claudio Sgroi left Mombacho and now Indiana Ortez is coming in as the new master blender and general manager. There are two new La Casa del Habano franchises in Bangkok. And starting later today, Fuente & Meerapfel meet the professor show is hosting a 26-hour Vodcast. Ministry of Cigars is hosting two hours as well. This was the weekly news for week 14 of 2021.
