Weekly news week 16 2020
Weekly news week 16 2020. Recently we published about the word boutique which led to an invite to a podcast. And to three lists. List of brands that faded, list of brands that made it, and a list of brands that are likely to make it. We received enough feedback to compile a second part of those lists, and we published another list of brands that didn’t make it. Although some are still around, they aren’t as popular as they used to be. And Episode 12 of Soil to Soul was published on our front page.
Reviews and more
As usual, two reviews were published. Two cigars from Nicaragua. A decade-old unicorn by Don Duarte, from Don Roger Duarte’s personal collection. And the Casa de Torres limited edition 2020. Casa de Torres is a brand owned by August Schuster Zigarren from Germany and is over 20 years old.
Casdagli, Gurkha and more
The cigars from Jeremy Casdagli will soon be available down under. The cigar aficionados in New Zealand can soon get their hands on modern classics such as the Daughters of the Wind and other lines by Casdagli Cigars. The New Zealand based distributor Canteros came to a distribution agreement with Jeremy Casdagli. Gurkha Cigars is joining the growing list of companies that are moving on to virtual gatherings on Zoom. From now on, there will be a virtual gathering with Sales Director Juan Lopez every Saturday. That is due to the coronavirus. Last week, we published an interview with Sasja van Horssen about his new initiative, Brothers of the Leaf vs Coronavirus. That initiative supports Dutch tobacconists. This week, three more manufacturers joined the program. A.J. Fernandez, Tatuaje Cigars, and My Father Cigars are now part of the initiative.
Another company going online is the Cigar Smoking World Championship. Due to the worldwide pandemic, all the qualifiers have been canceled. But Marko Bilic and his team came up with an alternative, an online competition. One of the main sponsors of the Cigar Smoking World Championship is the French accessory manufacturer Les Fines Lames. They released a new limited edition series with famous skylines from cities all over the world etched on the blade.
