Weekly news week 18 2021

July 20, 2022 Inspector Z 4 min read

Weekly news week 18 2021. Each first Sunday of the month, we pays tribute to a legendary figure in the cigar industry. And this month it was nobody other than Carlos Fuente Sr. This week would have been the week where he would have been 86 years old. A good reason to drink some Chivas and light a Don Carlos cigar.

Reviews

The reviews of this week are both Nicaraguan cigars. The first one is a cigar that’s officially only available in the United States. It’s the collaboration between Drew Estate and bourbon manufacturer Pappy van Winkle. We reviewed the Pappy van Winkle Tradition Coronita. The second review of the week is a cigar from former Drew Estate CEO Steve Saka. The cigar community was in shock when Saka came with a Connecticut Shade cigar, Sobremesa Brûlée. And now there is a follow-up with the Sobremesa Brûlée Blue.

Habanos news

This was a big week for Habanos. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, all cigar festivals are off the table. That includes the annual Habanos Festival. But Habanos did not want the 55th birthday of Cohiba to go unnoticed. So instead of a physical Habanos Festival, there was a virtual one. The World Habanos Days include 360-degree tours, press conferences, a virtual trade show, Habanos awards, and new product presentations.

And there are plenty of new products to show. There is the Cohiba 55 Aniversario Edicion Limitada. The other Edicion Limitada cigars for 2021 are the Hoyo de Monterrey No.4 Edicion Limitada and the Bolivar Regentes. The Partagas Serie P #2 comes in a gran Reserva version. And there are more new products to read here. The French accessory manufacturer S.T. Dupont comes with a Cohiba 55 Aniversario series. The Swiss watch manufacturer Zenith does the same with a limited-edition Cohiba 55 Aniversario watch. China is now the largest consumer market for Habanos.

Drew Estate & Joya

This week was also the annual Drew Estate Freestyle Facebook event. With new products and other news. The biggest news is that Drew Estate is celebrating its 25th birthday with a huge event in Texas this September. This year is also the 10th anniversary of the Undercrown brand. And the original team created the Undercrown 10 plus an event only Undercrown.

Drew Estate’s tribute to Esteli and Nicaragua gets an update. The blend of the Nica Rustica remains the same but the packaging gets an overhaul. With a more Nicaraguan theme in the artwork. But El Brujito will not disappear from the packaging. Drew Estate distributes Joya de Nicaragua in the United States, so Juan Martinez was part of the Freestyle as well. To introduce the Joya de Nicaragua Dos Cientos and the annual release of the Cinco Decadas and Numero Uno.

Other news

The Cigars, Ales, Scotch, and Coffee Bar in Aberdeen, better known as CASC, open a retail store. Dissident is releasing its annual Home release. There are more Fuente Opus22 boxes heading to retail. Nat Cicco is adding vitolas to the Aniversario 65 series. Casa Cuevas is paying tribute to the family history with a new cigar.

Asylum Cigars come from Nicaragua and Honduras. But now there is also an Asylum Cigar from the Dominican Republic. And the name draws inspiration from DC Comics. Tampa sees the official opening of Grand Cathedral Cigars with a big party. And talking about parties, Rocky Patel had one in February. His 60th birthday and to celebrate he is releasing the Rocky Patel Sixty. There is no party at Guantanamera Cigar Company. They feel that White Owl is infringing on their Duo trademark so they are bringing it to court. This was the weekly news for week 18 of 2021.
