Weekly news week 31 2021

October 20, 2022 Inspector Z 3 min read

Weekly news week 31 2021. For the last months, every first Sunday of the month is dedicated to a person who earned his accolades in the cigar industry. From tobacco growers to brand owners and manufacturers. But even if you don’t grow tobacco, don’t make cigars, and don’t own a brand you can still be worthy of a special. Marvin Shanken is such a man. His publication Cigar Aficionado was the start of the Cigar Boom in the 1990s and with that, he saved a lot of cigar companies from dying a slow death.

Reviews

Two reviews this week. One from Nicaragua, but with Cuban roots. And one from Cuba itself. The Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut Robusto was a suggestion of the staff at Cigaragua Amsterdam. They know that Connecticut Shade isn’t a wrapper that we particularly like, but they weren’t letting us leave without this cigar. The second cigar of this week is the Sancho Panza Non Plus, a lesser-known Cuban cigar.

Cigar News

There is plenty of news from The Netherlands this week. First of all, El Cobre comes back to the Dutch retailers. There is a shipment with rare Arturo Fuente cigars on its way to The Netherlands. And Arturo Fuente releases a special Carlito bobblehead with a shirt in the colors of the Dutch national flag. Nordlicht Cigars will soon be available in the United Kingdom. Sperlinga is releasing the Volcano series, with different sizes for each continent. Protocol Cigars releases its third John Doe. Caribbean Cigar Company is releasing the Diplomaticos Exclusivo Caribe at the end of this month

El Septimo wants to build the largest cigar distribution network in the USA. With the purchase of LV Wholesale, they took a huge step in that direction. Condega changes the packaging on the Serie F, Serie F Maduro, and Arsenio. Les Fines Lames adds Nicaragua and Dominican Republic to the Compass series. Boveda is now available in Singapore through a local distributor. Tarazona Cigars adds three brokers to its sales force. Oliva Cigar Company acquires Puros Indios, Cuba Aliados, and Roly.

Events

There is good news about cigar events and there is bad news about cigar events. The good news is that the Cigar Smoking World Championship starts with its American season. With 13 pre-qualifiers and a final, with prizes for the winner of each tournament. There are also dates in Asia, South America, and Europe. The bad news is that Drew Estate had to make the tough call to cancel the DE25 event, three Barnsmokers, plus all in-person events due to the growing cases of Covid-19 infections. The Chinese International Cigar Expo also has to postpone due to travel restrictions such as mandatory quarantine when entering China. This concludes the weekly news of week 31 2021
