Weekly news week 51 2019. On Sunday we published a review of the second annual celebration of Jember as cigar city of Indonesia. The pictures and information were gracefully provided by a local brother of the leaf and friend Zulkiflee Idrus. Jember is the main tobacco region of Indonesia and the birthplace of several premium handmade longfillers. We also reviewed the Henk Maori Haka cigar. This Nicaraguan cigar, made for the luxury brand Henk, will end up high in our Top 25 for 2019. The second cigar we reviewed is the Don Chico Ecuador Toro. Another Nicaraguan cigar, this time from Barreda Cigars.

Just like the previous two years, VegaFina is releasing a cigar to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The VegaFina Year of the Rat follows the Chinese zodiac calendar and is limited to 4000 boxes of 16 cigars. Another limited release is the Davidoff Masterpiece humidor in a collaboration with French artist Émilie Moutard-Martin. She painted 5 Davidoff Masterpiece humidors that come with an exclusive Davidoff Royal Release vitola. Dunbarton Tobacco and Trust announced the release of Polpetta. That will be an event only shortfiller, made with the clippings of three other Dunbarton Tobacco cigars. Cavelier Geneve is releasing a lancero in the Black II blend.
The most exciting news of the week came from My Father Cigars though. They acquired the Fonseca brand from Quesada Cigars. The production of the cigars will move from the Dominican Republic to Nicaragua, Due to trademarks, the cigars will only be available in the United States. And there is a lot of good news for the cigar aficionados in the Czech Republic. There are new cigars coming from Oliva, A.J. Fernandez and Drew Estate. And Condega will be released in the Central European country for the first time in history.
Cigar Smoking World Championship
The organization behind the Cigar Smoking World Championship released the world record ranking. In a decade time, the event has grown to an internationally recognized series of qualifying tournaments and a grand finale in Croatia. To make the top 20 of the slowest smokers in the world you have to keep your Mareva sized cigar burning for three hours minimum. And to become the world record holder, you need to aim for almost four hours.
